EveThe first womanGenesis 1-2Six times, God looked at what He had made and said: good.
Then, for the first time, He said: not good.
To understand why, you have to go back. Before light. Before anything.
Now the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep.
And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.
No sound. No sun. Nothing to see. Then God spoke.
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
And God saw that the light was good.
He spoke, and the waters split, and dry land rose out of the sea.
And God saw that it was good.
He spoke, and the bare ground turned green.
Sun. Moon. Stars.
Fish filled the seas. Birds filled the sky.
Animals filled the land. Good. Every time, good.
Then, on the sixth day, God did something He had not done for the stars or the seas. He did not only speak. He came close.
Then the LORD God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being.
The first thing a human being ever felt was the breath of God.
God gave him a garden, rivers, every tree. Every animal came to him to be named.
And still, something was missing.
The LORD God also said, “It is not good for the man to be alone.”
Six times good. And now, not good.
So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep.
He made a woman and brought her to him.
This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh.
And God looked upon all that He had made, and indeed, it was very good.
You were not an afterthought. You were not just spoken into being. You were formed by His hands, and breathed.

Then the LORD God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being.
